Those Architects have quietly shaped some of the most distinctive houses on the North Coast over the past decade. We sat down with the directors in their Byron Bay studio to talk about light, timber and building for the climate.
“Every house up here starts with the breeze,” they told us. “If you get the orientation and the openings right, you barely need air conditioning. Everything else follows from that.”
The practice works almost entirely with local builders and favours honest materials: hardwood, brick, corrugated steel and rendered block. “We want the houses to age well. A home should look better after ten summers, not worse.”
